The hotel once had the longest verandah and balcony in South Australia, and when some was removed, the stone and railing was used to erect the Rotunda in Victoria Square.

The hotel has had numerous renovations and extensions over the last 100 years with many more planned. The hotel has had over 30 different publicans since 1861, with the Pomery Family currently operating the hotel since 2016.
